From South To North And Back Again

After several days of meetings in Hobart, Fr Prior drove north to visit a few properties there and become acquainted with the Catholic community in and around Launceston. He returned to Hobart the day before yesterday and is presently looking at sites in the Southern Midlands.

Aspiciens A Longe

Such are the first words of the first responsory for Matins on this first Sunday of Advent. Aspiciens a longe: looking from afar.  In the context it is the prophet who looks into the distant future and sees the might of God coming to save humanity. The entire Church is thus invited to give thanks […]

Saint Joseph’s Island

I have been told that the French explorers to whom some of the localities on the Eastern shores of Tasmania owe their names, named this island after Saint Joseph. I must say it is a great joy to know that we are in St Joseph’s land, and that Our Lady’s project is underway there. This […]

From Burgundy To The Burgundy Of The Antipodes

Fr Prior left Flavigny on 16 November, arriving, after unexpected delays, on the 18th, feast of the dedication of the Basilicas of SS Peter and Paul. After a brief stay in NSW, he is now in Tasmania to set up the foundation. Monday and Tuesday of this week were spent in working sessions with representatives […]

A Prayer For Monastic Life

Rich indeed in spiritual treasures are the days that are given to us. Each and every day has its own grace, and the attentive and devout soul will cherish each one as a gift of God’s merciful love. We honour all the saints in Heaven, the canonised saints of course, but the many more uncanonised ones whom, please God, we will meet when we get there. We hope and pray that […]

CHRISTUS REGNAT

Christ reigns in hearts who are at peace. He reigns in and through the souls who allow Him to pursue His saving mission in them. He reigns where He is allowed to pursue His passion. He reigns unto the utter ends of the earth, wherever there are souls who give Him their lives, totally, without […]

THE HOLY APOSTLES SIMON AND JUDE

Amazing as it may seem, the small medieval town of Flavigny sur Ozerain is in possession of two most precious relics: large parts of the skulls of the Holy Apostles Simon and Jude, whom we honour on this day. Tradition tells us that it was Pope John VIII who, on one of his tours of […]

A Recipe That Works

1st Sunday of Advent As we begin a new liturgical year, the words of the apostle are once again brought before us. It is time for us to rise from sleep, for our salvation is closer now than it was when we first came to the faith. St Paul already had noticed that the faith […]
